On the morning of Wednesday, June 14, 2017, Britons woke to the tragic news of a devastating fire that consumed a 24-story tower of public housing apartments in the heart of North Kensington.

The smoke billowing from the tower was visible throughout London as the first responders’ sirens wailed. The Grenfell Tower fire claimed many lives but the definitive numbers will not be known until 2018.

While great recovery efforts have already been made, there is still huge amounts of work to be done. Many of the families remain displaced and few have been re-housed. Community support, while strong at first, has dwindled despite the remaining demand.

To help rebuild momentum, Sotheby’s will be hosting Art for Grenfell. This charity auction will raise funds for those affected by this heartbreaking disaster. Film producer Hamish McAlpine and art consultant Katie Heller are the propelling forces behind the auctionArtists have generously donated works to be offered at the most appealing estimates.

Having seen and placed many artworks by these talented artists in our portfolio, we have every confidence that Art for Grenfall will help to recall and rebuild the energy surrounding community recovering efforts.

We wish those able to participate in bidding the best of luck and look forward to viewing the positive results.
