Whimsical window displays at the Shanghai Hermes boutique draw inspiration from the Museum of Natural History

The brand’s’ 5th Hermes Maison opened in Shanghai recently following locations in Paris (of course), New York, Tokyo and Seoul. Lucky for Shanghai’s Hermes Maison, French artists Lucie Thomas and Thibault Zimmerman, co-founders of Zim& Zou, have focused their designing efforts on creating installations using organic products such as paper and leather. Inspiration was drawn from the Museum of Natural History.

Almost like entering Alice’s Wonderland, the scene inside is bright and whimsical. The two main windows were inspired by air and water with a 16-foot paper skeleton of an extinct dinosaur on display. The two smaller windows were inspired by Earth. To commemorate China’s “Year of the Horse”, Philippe Dumas curated an inaugural show celebrating the brand’s equestrian history as a saddler maker and China’s year of the horse (through October 1st). With three months of work required, this a project that should be enjoyed for quite some time!

Inside Hermes Maison Shanghai, this life-size peacock was created by using flat paper and giving it structural volume which embodies an ephemeral quality!
