This North Palm Beach getaway is a sophisticated golf cottage on the first fairway of a Jack Nicklaus-designed-golf course. The goal was for a contemporary, open expression of living as we raised the ceiling to an open 24-foot peak. The landscape played a key role – we placed the living room window strategically to look out onto the full hedge arborvitae, and the lanai is oriented to face the specimen Banyan tree and the fairway beyond.
The Great Room was oriented to take advantage of an enormous full hedge of arborvitae and topiary boxwoods. A full wall of Hope’s Doors and Windows removes the barrier between outdoors and in. To balance the intensity of the green hedge wall, we chose to keep the interior space predominantly white with accent lines of black in the window frames and countertops.
The full chef’s kitchen is incorporated into the large common room and completely hidden from view when not in use. The kitchen is equipped with all necessary appliances that have fully-integrated front panels or are cleverly concealed: the wall oven is hidden behind cabinet doors; the exhaust hood pops up from behind the cook-top; the faucet retracts down and the sink gets covered with a black stone board that matches the counter-top. Elegant polished lacquer cabinetry is accented by white opaque glass panels and embraced by polished Petit Granite waterfall counters.
The view from the lanai is spectacular – a specimen Banyan Tree with a massive trunk 20-feet in diameter frames a private view of the first fairway of the golf course.
