Years ago in the heart of the Colombian mountains, a Latin-American textile designer developed a unique technique of weaving metal threads and natural fibers together. Carlos Vera Dieppa pioneered this technique decades ago, and after his passing in 2010, his son and daughter, Tomás and Cristina, revitalized the technique and created an enviable brand.

Verdi Design is a combination of family traditions and traditional Colombian craftsmanship.

There are 31 thread colors for the rugs. Each one looks completely different when combined with the various metals.

The rural mountain town of Curití is where the creation of each Verdi product begins. Natural fibers are extracted and dyed, hand spun, and transported to the factory in Bogota. At the factory, the fiber is woven on manual looms along metal threads such as copper, stainless steel, and acrylic.

The name of the fiber and the exact location of where it is grown is a BIG and well-kept company secret.

Verdi Design works with a wide range of materials including alpaca fleece, plantain fibers, yaré, stainless steel, and copper to create luxury products. In addition to beautiful rugs, there are patterned homewares and art products.

Working with the local people in the mountainous region of Santander, the natural fibers are dyed with colored powders in the traditional way. Once the dyed fibers have dried in the sun, it is time for the fibers to make their way to the factory.

The fibers are spun from exotic Columbian plants that are colored and dried in the mountain region of Curití.

The name of the company, Verdi, comes from the patriarch’s two last names, Vera Dieppa, which abbreviated cleverly became Verdi.

Inspiration is easy to come by when you live in such a gorgeous environment. Ecohabs in the Tayrona National Park has been a great source of inspiration because it naturally mixes modern design and nature.

Verdi rugs are like works of art… and the fact that they employ local artisans makes this company all the more attractive!
