We love unique stores… and Casa Perfect fits that bill perfectly. By appointment only, Casa Perfect is singular in that it changes locations in order to experiment with different architectural settings that have varying cultural and historical significance. Now on their third reiteration, we thought we’d step back and recap Casa Perfect 2.0…

Set in a home designed by Rex Lotery in 1958, the California modernist home screams Hollywood royalty. Not surprising… in 1967, Elvis Presley purchased the home during a time considered his “comeback years.” Presley lived in the house for six years, along with his wife and his daughter.

Situated above Sunset Boulevard, it is known as one of the world’s best examples of modernist architecture from the 1950-60’s. And it isn’t alone in special architecture; neighboring homes include a “Who’s Who” of master architects such as Harold Levitt and Frank Lloyd Wright.

Casa Perfect is ideal in that it showcases a blend of the city’s cultural history and contemporary design renaissance. The style that “fell out of favor” in the 1970’s was rediscovered with great enthusiasm at the beginning of this century. It was thanks to fashion photographer Steven Meisel who staged a fashion campaign in a Trousdale modern that this quickly began the area and style’s revival.

For this specific structure, the open-plan layout is perfect and the frequent use of glass frames the panoramic views of Los Angeles beautifully. In addition, a bright green lawn is reminiscent of a David Hockney painting, and the interior is both simple and detailed.

THIS Casa Perfect was the second home of Casa Perfect in Los Angeles; this opened in 2018 and follows the original LA location in the Hollywood Hills. This Casa Perfect follows the footprint of the previous outpost; here, collectible contemporary designs are laid out as though in a fully functioning home. Visitors can wander through the rooms and browse the items at their leisure. Surely, this is a much more low-key environment than a traditional showroom or gallery.

About this space, the gallery was quoted as saying, “Given its pedigree, both as an incubator for a typical California style of architecture and as a storied, celebrity-filled enclave, Trousdale Estates was the perfect choice for Casa Perfect. Sited behind a winding driveway, the newly renovated residence is nothing short of the mythical California pad imagined in vivid celluloid dreams.”

Casa Perfect follows a similar model to the previous outpost, where collectible contemporary designs are laid out like a fully functioning home. Visitors can wander through the various rooms and browse the pieces at leisure, intended as a more relaxed environment than a traditional gallery or showroom.

Following success in California, a Manhattan location opened in a beautiful 5,000-square-foot Italianate brownstone. This 5-story townhouse is located in the West Village, on a street as picturesque and tree-lined as it can get. The home’s focal point is a structural staircase designed by the British architect, David Chipperfield.

David Alhadeff, the founder of The Future Perfect said about the New York location which opened in March 2019, “As soon as I opened Casa Perfect in Los Angeles, I immediately knew I wanted to replicate the concept in New York. The most crucial step was finding the right space to bring the concept to life in an authentic way that felt true to The Future Perfect’s vision. Casa is first and foremost about the experience. The shopping comes second. The townhouse I found will assuredly create a meaningful and noteworthy experience. I’m looking forward to showing it off!”

The West Village townhouse was previously owned by Nat Rothschild, the British-born financier who is a member of the prestigious Rothschild family.

Casa Perfect isn’t alone in it’s trend of setting up shopping destinations within residential spaces. Founder Alhadeff stays resolved to making very few changes to the existing spaces in which he sets up his curated showrooms. He says, “It’s no longer acceptable to put T-shirts on a rack and say it’s a store. You have to curate an experience.”

In design, there has been a lot of rivalry between East Coast decor and West Coast decor… as such, the New York City Casa Perfect and the Los Angeles Casa Perfect are meant to complement each other and not compete against one another. The two locations, on opposite parts of the country, are indeed the yin and yang of each other!
