REVOL 1768

For a period of time, it was believed that REVOL was created in 1789; however, history proved otherwise… the year of inception was actually 1768.

Made in France, REVOL 1786 is a family-run company that has the history of 9 generations of family history behind it. The background is as fascinating as the products produced. When Pierre Revol and Magdelene Carrier, both of who came from potter families, got married in Lyon… it paved the way for a family-run company whose product that would stand the test of time.

At that time, the Dome grounds were found to have the specific resources and properties for making a more resistant ceramic. The kaolin deposits found in the local sand and clay was what separated REVOL clay from the pact. In 1800, the family’s second generation opened a workshop in Sanit-Uze, this soon turned into a factory. REVOL specialized in stoneware that was known for being resistant while maintaining hygienic properties.

The company continued to expand through many exhibitions in national fair trades during the second half of the 19th century. When the twentieth century began, Louis Gustave Revol transformed the manufacturing process by switching it from an artisan manufacturing process to a method that uses advanced technology such as jiggering and slip casting.

The reprucussions from World War II impacted France’s economy and the factory’s infrastructure. This caused REVOL to evolve and develop into new markets such as the bistro business and alcohol and spirit bottles. Investing in a new tunnel kiln allowed production capacities increased tremendously.

The company’s 8th generation took leadership in 1980, Bertrand Passot (the last name Revol changed to Passot due to marriage) quickly began an ambitious restructuring plan, invested in new machinery, and invested in training the employees. In addition, Passot improved the quality of clay via refining the firing process.

Going forward, the company began to manufacture porcelain exclusively… thus, REVOL Porcelain. The company evolved from being an oven-to-table brand to a design-oriented company that began offering new dinnerware lines that combined the quality of professional use with the look and feel of “cozy at home.”

Throughout the world, the most renowned chefs have been known to favor REVOL products.

Several decades ago, REVOL decided to expand into the world of design by demonstrating a taste and talent for the cutting edge. Innovative ideas have always been at the center of REVOL’s creative process, as they remain committed to an endless search for reinvention and inspiration that is in line with the times, architectural trends, and desires of the world’s most renowned chefs.

REVOL strives to remain ahead of trends in order to be able to continue offering unique products by reinterpreting old designs with unexpected twists.

The collection was created as a set of cake pans all inspired by traditional French recipes such as soufflés and tarts. Since each mold is made from porcelain, you can be assured that it will produce unparalleled baking. This is because the material holds heat better than similar products, even when removed from the oven.

REVOL is unique in that it is one of the few companies that can honestly say they work exclusively with natural and primary materials. However, that IS the case with REVOL as they are able to transform carefully selected white kaolin, quartz, and feldspar… most of which comes from France or Europe… into stunning products.

REVOL experts have an eye for color and are especially adept at choosing the whitest clay. The quartz used is locally sourced, it comes from an area near to the current Dome factory. As one of the only factories worldwide to produce its own clay pastes, REVOL is able to adapt materials to its manufacturing processes (which change according to changing demands). This is a huge bonus indeed!
